Camping Ballena Alegre has been awarded ADAC Camping Awards 2022 in the category “Sustainability and Environmental Awareness”. Camping La Ballena Alegre receives this award for its sustainable and environmentally friendly use of the camping site, in particular for the maximal reduction of CO2 emissions (more than 100 tons of CO2 are saved per year).
This reduction was achieved with the installation and commissioning of 14 geothermal boreholes. This causes the water to heat up or cool down. The resulting cooling energy is used to heat the restaurants and other camping facilities. The bungalows and the hot water in the sanitary facilities are powered by solar energy. Campers can charge their electric vehicles at several free fast charging stations.
Some bungalows were specifically built to run on sustainable energy. A hybrid system combines solar power with a battery and heat pump system, making the bungalows 85% energy self-sufficient.
The ADAC Camping Awards are the most important awards for campsites in Europe. These prizes are awarded based on hundreds of suggestions from the camping sector and from an international commission of 40 experts in this field.
“The ADAC Camping Awards are like the Oscars of the camping industry,” says Uwe Frers, camping expert and CEO of ADAC Camping GmbH.
